IEM student Ekaterina Shevchenko discovered new business opportunities for electronics startup

The IEM student Ekaterina Shevchenko elaborated business hypothesis of a new startup during entrepreneurial inernship in the TechnoSpark Group. LCS Company will develop electronic modules packages to power and control of impulse lasers electronic components. Ekaterina actively participated in the search of business opportunities for Polaris – a manufacturer of laser equipment and made a contact with an eventual buyer to test a new product.

The LCS product business hypothesis arose from the activity of Polarus company in which the IEM TSU student was undertaking an internship according to #startupasdiploma program on a position of junior property developer. Polarus develops and manufactures picoseconds fiber lasers for microprocessing. During the internship Ekaterina was working on a “narrow space” of the industry to help create a division of labor system for laser sources manufacturers.

Getting to the bottom of Polarus activities Ekaterina Shevchenko, despite of focus of her education on the humanities, figured out physical processes and composition of laser equipment due to operational analysis as well as understood how the industry works in Russia and worldwide. The card of the industry created by Ekaterina during the internship helped to analyze the market. Also she helped with participation in trade shows to find new clients and partners, creation of new company’s website and analysis of new possibilities for development.

There are lots of implementation points on the map of laser industry which have already been sufficiently developed and don’t require immediate innovation, for example instrument cases. There are also fields which are being constantly researched and there is a significant increase in productivity, for example fiber optics. But laser electronics don’t belong to either one of them. The specifics of works with electronic components is that it’s not specialized in working of the laser company in this area and every type of  laser along with its characteristics are considered. In other words electronics is a “bottleneck” on the map of laser sources creation, Ekaterina Shevchenko said during presentation her externship results according to the program #startupasdiploma.

As Ekaterina Shevchenko informed during her #startupasdiploma presentation, next steps in working with LCS business hypothesis are going to be further development of full electronic modules packages  with following internal and external testing and continuing analysis of the market requirements with the beginning of new communications with the participants of the industry and attempts of first sales.

In addition, the fourth season of entrepreneurial internship in “TechnoSpark” starts in September of 2022 and it’s partially filled with students including ones from TSU. In general more than 5000 students from 10 Russian universities made it through draft tests. In September and October one more draft test will be held – for the universities wishing to join the program.
