IEM TSU Students Participate in All-Russian Go Championship
On May 9-11, "Capitans" students fr om IEM took part in the all-Russian tournament of Go, the world's most complex strategic board game.
Learning and playing Go are part of the curriculum of the educational program "Entrepreneurship and Project Management" ("Capitans") at the Institute of Economics and Management of Tomsk State University. From their first year, "Capitans" students of various years attend classes taught by senior students. Additionally, they organize tournaments, and some students of the program already hold referee qualifications, allowing them to conduct regional tournaments and evaluate games.
The Siberia Cup was held in Novosibirsk on May 9-10 as the 5th stage of the 2026 Russian Go Cup, and on May 11, a rapid tournament for the Siberia-Hokkaido Cup took place. The competition brought together players of various ages and skill levels from all corners of the country. IEM TSU was represented by 19 students. For all of them, the trip turned out to be very eventful and memorable.
Our students performed well, and some participants received certificates for outstanding results:
Sergey Enders — 6/6 wins
Danila Danshin — 5/6 wins
Dmitry Wagner — 5/6 wins
We congratulate the participants and wish them more successful games and victories! We continue to build our skills to go next time and achieve even better results.

"Before this, we had only played against our own students, so it was especially interesting to test our abilities against players from other cities. We went not so much for victory but to gain new competitive experience and learn something new in the game," says 1st-year student Semyon Vorobyov.
"The tournament itself took place in a pleasant atmosphere. Of course, some games were intense, but in any case, only positive emotions remain," notes Sofia Kovaleva (1st year).
"The tournament gave me a lot of experience. I watched how people who devote a lot of time to this game play. I picked up new tricks and tactics for myself. I would go back there again!" said Ivan Nazarenko (1st year).
"Hokkaido is a place wh ere problems fade into the background. Here, it's just you, your opponent, and multiple choices. For the second year, I've been resting my body and soul in this place; I will definitely return there again," admits Nika Glushchuk (2nd year).
"It wasn't just a tournament; it was a confrontation with myself. With my fears and doubts. I managed to find new meanings for myself in the game, which greatly influenced my personal growth. I want to continue developing and discovering new things about myself through the strategic game of Go," shares Dmitry Wagner (1st year).
