Ready – go! First-year students met with IEM’s administration and lecturers.

“On my own behalf and on behalf of the entire academic staff, I congratulate you on entering one of the best universities of the country and the best institute of economics and management!” – began the meeting the Director of IEM Evgeniya Nekhoda. The meeting of administration and lecturers of IEM with first-year students of bachelor’s, specialist’s, and master’s programs was held on September 1st.
In the new year, IEM will be teaching more than 400 first-year students (bachelor’s, specialist’s, and master’s programs). In total, there are more than 1200 students studying at the Institute.
During the meeting in the conference room of the Research Library of the TSU, Evgeniya Nekhoda told about the IEM’s structure, educational programs, lecturers, partners, successful student projects, opportunities for students, as well as introduced the students to the heads of the educational programs…
“The city and the grove have come alive, I am so glad to see this many beautiful and talented people!” – Dr. Nekhoda emphasized. “Tomsk is the student and scientific capital of Siberia, or even all of Russia, with the number of students here exceeding 60 thousand. There are only 4 Imperial State Universities remaining in Russia, amongst which is the Imperial Tomsk State University. Apart from Tomsk, there are only the universities of Moscow, Saint Petersburg, and Kazan.”
Alexandr Olovyashnikov, director of Eco-Factory Sibirskiy Kedr LLC:
“What can you learn at TSU? To solve difficult problems, to earn substantial amounts of money, to manage collectives and to build relations. The main thing to have is your will. In business, those, who in a given time try the most of hypotheses and ideas, achieve the success. The duration of studies isn’t too long, so use all the opportunities provided by the University!”
Vladislav Alekseevsky, the director of an online game developer company:
“I want to share my thoughts on what I did wrong during my studies at TSU – I wasn’t active enough when it came to using all the opportunities given by the University. I advise you to actively participate in everything, especially in the group projects. This way, you can build long-standing friendships and professional relations. And the thing I did right is I learned to use the skills I received in real work. I like it very much when I get paid money: an average economics graduate earns more than an average worker in Russia. This is the main criteria by which your performance is measured – when you get paid for your work.”
Vladimir Golov, the chairman of the student union bureau of TSU, underlined the importance of direct meeting with students after 2 years’ break. He noted that the students have many tools at their disposal, and to use them or not depends on the wish of every student. The senior colleagues, on their part, are ready to help.
Marianna Grigoryan, 4th year IEM student and chairwoman of the student active, underlined that this is the best stage in students’ life, when they can allow themselves to make mistakes: “Never be afraid to try things, do them, it’s better to try and make a mistake than to not try at all. There is everything for you, for studies, for sports, and for new projects.”

On the meeting with master students, the longstanding partner of the IEM, chairwoman of the “Strategic Management of Human Resources” master’s program board, HR Director of the LAMA Group Angelica Zhurakovskaya noted the importance of theoretical knowledge gained by students:
“Usually I share the practical knowledge with students, they like the practical classes a lot. However, I always tell them that knowledge is the foundation of any practice. I wish you to value the foundation that you will build here. Learn to look for new knowledge to be successful in practice.”
Maria German, chief of Office for Master’s and PhD Programs at IEM, also wished the new students to achieve self-realization, to complete all of their goals and set themselves new horizons.
Furthermore, a meeting with students from Uzbekistan studying on the double degree program took place at IEM. The program heads told about the curriculum and wished the students a successful adaptation to the new city and the studies.
