“Marketing specialists have to be political experts and diplomats to a certain degree”: Pakistani professor gave lecture at IEM

The lecture by the Pakistani professor Ali Ehsan named “Geopolitical Environment of Asia-Pacific Region” was carried out at IEM. It was a part of “Promotion and marketing campaign (Asia-Pacific Region)” course by IEM Associate Professor Irina Pavlova for the students of master program “International Management”.

Irina Anatolyevna concluding the lecture said the following: “One of the most known models used in economic and management science is a model of an organization’s entrepreneurial field consisting of its internal and external environments. The latter can be represented as two levels – of direct impact and indirect influence. Now then, the geopolitics discussed during our meeting is a factor of the indirect influence on the external environment and it must be considered during strategy development at multiple levels. I would like to mention, that the global major companies have their own political strategies incorporating particularities of conducting the business in unstable political environment. If you want to become a good specialist in the field of international management and marketing you must take an interest in politics. You can’t separate a company economics from the environment. There are several methodologies of the external environment analysis: PESTEL, SWOT, Porter’s Five Forces are classical methodologies when OLI framework, CAGE analysis are used in international strategic management. All of them consider political factors of international entrepreneurial environment that we study during my classes of Global Business Strategies, Promotion and Marketing Campaign in Asia Pacific Region as a part of the ‘International Management’ master program”.

IEM PhD student Zhang Jie: “Professor Ali Ehsan discussed the current geopolitical situation in Asia-Pacific Region along with the challenges met by Russia, China, Pakistan, India and other countries. He thoroughly analyzed the logic of geopolitics using maps and brought the matter to the heads of the listeners”.

IEM Master student Arina Ahtayamova: “It was pleasant to listen to a man with such experience in the field of geopolitical relations. The presentation was very informative and comprehensive. The Professor used real life situations to help us understand complicated matters of regions interactions. I am very grateful for the event and looking forward to the next such meetings!”

The second and final lecture «Political Factors That Effect Marketing» by the professor Ali will take place in Class 110, 31st building on May 6.
