TSU has celebrated the 120th anniversary of economic education in Siberia and the Far East

120 years ago the foundation for educational and scientific activities on economic disciplines in the territory from the Urals and to the Far East was laid: on October 22, 1898, the Department of Political Economy and Statistics was organized in the Faculty of Law of Tomsk Imperial University. From November 14 to November 17, Institute of Economics and Management held anniversary events dedicated to the great anniversary of economic education in Siberia and the Far East.

Scientists from Tomsk, Omsk, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, and Krasnoyarsk during the seminars and roundtables discussed the transformation of economics training and modern technologies and practices of teaching economic disciplines, current issues of economics and education in the past, present, and future. Also under the 120th anniversary and the international HR-Trend 2018 conference, a roundtable Managerial Competencies and Educational Technologies of their Formation was held. It was organized by the Department of State and Municipal Management and the Department of Organizational Behavior and Personnel Management at the IEM TSU. The participants were university professors, undergraduates, representatives of business structures, and government.

IEM students took an active part in the events: Bachelor’s students Maxim Belyakov, Maria Duinova, and Lyubov Novoselova told about their experience in gaining competencies and skills in training, the skills needed by a modern manager and Master’s students Nikolay Aborin, Igor Kuznetsov, Arthur Roshchupkin, Tatyana Sin, and Sofia Smirnova expressed their opinions and suggestions at a roundtable on the introduction of problem-oriented learning technology (PBL) in the educational process.

Viktor Dyomin, Director of the Institute of Economics and Management of the TSU, congratulated all those present, noting the great contribution of the pioneers of economic education to its development, thanked the colleagues who are developing economics today, and also spoke about the achievements and plans of IEM for the future, presenting the report IEM TSU in 2020 as a World-Class Graduate School. 

Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor of Economics, Tatiana Kolomiets, who has devoted more than 40 years to work at TSU, made a big interesting presentation on the formation and development of economic education at TSU. The report noted important milestones in the formation of the economic school of the Tomsk University and people who, over the course of a century, made a huge contribution to its development.

- I want to note that the Siberian economic science remembers all its predecessors,- said Dmitry Khloptsov, head of the Department of Economics at the IEM. - The result of these 120 years is that in all major cities of Siberia economic science is developing, almost everywhere - in Novosibirsk, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Omsk, and Barnaul - their own departments, institutes, and faculties have been created. Their basis was the Department of Political Economy and Statistics, created at Tomsk Imperial University in 1898.

Also under the academic council, the Director of IEM TSU Victor Dyomin awarded 10 students of the Institute on behalf of the TSU Endowment Fund according to the results of the competition for a nominal stipend with the support of Gazprombank. The winners have developed and presented projects aimed at the interaction of the university and graduates, the development of the Endowment Fund and the Association of the University Graduates.
