At the IEM Academic Council Meeting on October 30, 2025
On October 30, a regular meeting of the Academic Council was held at the Institute of Economics and Management (IEM) of Tomsk State University. The agenda included a report on the activities of the IEM Career Center, the discussion and approval of State Final Attestation (GIA) programs, as well as graduation and qualification works of the students.
Prior to the meeting, IEM TSU Director Evgenia Nekhoda presented a certificate of completion of the postgraduate program at IEM TSU to Zhang Jie, an assistant at the Department of Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management and manager of the International Exchange Center.
The Director of the IEM Career Center, Olga Misiutina, reported on the center's performance during the previous academic year and its development plans for the near future. In her report, Olga Vladimirovna highlighted the extensive work carried out in student career support and strengthening business ties during the 2024-2025 academic year. Twenty-nine career events were held, including alumni meetings "Path to Yourself," company tours, an internship fair, meetings under the project "Business Lessons with Sber," as well as others events. Over a thousand students participated, with 38 companies involved.
Key activities included active assistance in employment through publishing vacancies and selecting candidates for companies, as well as developing corporate relations, evidenced by signing agreements with leading organizations and arranging internships. An important part of the strategy was engagement with alumni, who were actively involved in conducting masterclasses and participating in specialized events. Plans for the 2025-2026 academic year include expanding activities: organizing trainings, professional tours, and job fairs, as well as implementing satisfaction monitoring for student internships and enhancing the professionalism of staff responsible for career development.
Presentations were also made by the undergraduate and master's program offices regarding the approval of GIA programs. The GIA programs for bachelor's and specialist degrees, as well as entrance examinations for master's and postgraduate programs, were approved.
"We are actively updating our curricula and State Final Attestation (GIA) programs. This year, the Academic Office developed a new template, and we have revised the programs while retaining our unique information," said Elena Yatkina, Director of the Bachelor's and Specialist Programs Office at IEM.
Council members also discussed the issue of selecting and approving topics for course and diploma projects, the upcoming "Economic Readings" (November 19-21, 2025), updates to admissions campaign rules, and the 10th anniversary of the Institute of Economics and Management, which will be celebrated in May 2026.
The Chair of the Academic Council and Director of IEM, Evgenia Nekhoda, paid special attention to upcoming changes in the educational activities of the entire university, which will also affect the Institute.
"Starting from the next academic year, all TSU educational programs will participate in a pilot project to change the higher education system. The Bachelor's degree will be renamed 'Basic Higher Education,' and the Master's degree will be called 'Specialized Higher Education.' The Specialist degree is not part of the pilot. These changes, although sparking discussion, are aimed at adapting to new requirements and enhancing the quality of education," noted Evgenia Vladimirovna.
