Global economic challenges discussed on conference at IEM
The XIII All-Russian conference “Economic Reads: Global Challenges and Vectors of Regional Social-Economic Development” took place at IEM TSU. Representatives of banking sector, authorities, business and science community became the participants. The program included a panel discussion, open lectures of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation representatives, financial games for the students and so on.
The “Economic reads” this year were dedicated to the 145th Anniversary of the Tomsk State University and 125 years of economic education here. The department of political economy was opened in 1898, which was the beginning of the economic education at the university.
The conference was opened by the Rector Eduard Galazhinskiy. He mentioned that the university had trained lots of professionals in economics some of whom work in the university nowadays.
The “Economic reads” at the university is always highlighted by professional discussion on challenges for Russian and regional economics. Involvement of the representatives of banking sector, authorities, business and science community lets us build the necessary economic base for the technological independence which our country needs the most, Eduard Galazhinskiy stressed.
The conference at IEM can become a platform for creating connections among the participants which would lead to new innovative projects, the rector added.
One of the honorable guests of the conference was First Deputy Director of the Bank of Russia Monetary Policy Department Andrey Gangan. Addressing the hosts and participants of the “Economic reads” he mentioned that with plenty of challenges for Russian economy there is no one universal solution and in this situation discussions are especially effective.
Tomsk always was the place of academic freedom and free scientific discussion, the Director of IEM TSU Evgenia Nekhoda added. Therefore I wish to the participants not to be afraid of asking questions. If we didn’t discuss a problem we wouldn’t be able to solve it.
The “XIII Economic reads” were divided into three tracks. Those were “Economy Politics in the Modern World”, “Vectors and Challenges of Regional Social and Economic Development”, “Human Resources and New Dimensions of Human Security”.
