An IEM graduate and famous videoblogger from Indonesia Turah Parthayana became the ambassador of Russian education and science. He will help with popularization of Russian science by participating in international educational and cultural events and carrying out lots of informational work. The Head of The Ministry of Education and Science Valeriy Falkov presided the official ceremony of awarding the rank of The Ambassador of Russian Education and Science

The ambassadors’ initiative created a mechanism of social and civic support of promotion of Russian education abroad. Greeting the colleagues Valeriy Falkov emphasized the task given by the Russian President Vladimir Putin –increase the number of international students in Russia up to 500 000.

The number of foreign students in our country is growing each year. Together with leading universities we support all the organizations providing the supportive environment including the Association of International Students of Russia, the Minister of Higher Education and Science Valeriy Falkov said.

Turah Parthayana came to study in Tomsk in 2015, gave preference the Siberian city over Saint-Peterburg and Moscow. In 2020 he graduated from the Institute of Economics and Management of TSU. In 2017 the young man started his Youtube channel which now has more than two million subscribers. Most of videos are about his life in Russia, study at universities in Moscow and Tomsk, campuses, meetings with students and professors, as well as about traveling.

Russian Education and Science Ambassadors initiative was started by the Ministry of Education and Science aimed at increasing the prestige of education in Russia for foreign students and popularization of Russian science abroad. Any foreign citizen who speaks Russian and foreign languages can become ambassador if they are ready to accomplish assigned tasks. We must mention that Turah was nominated for this position by TSU.

Turah’s videos represent a very effective source of information for Indonesian students not only about TSU but also about life in Russia in general with first person view and in a language comprehensible to young audience, TSU Vice Rector for International Affairs Artyom Rykun says. Such work is very important because the Indonesians don’t know about Russia a lot. Unfortunately, there is an extensive anti-Russian propaganda by western mass media, so the activities of such people as Turah are especially important nowadays.

According to Turah in his new position he’s going to promote studying opportunities in Russian universities among prospective students from abroad.

Russia is a fascinating country with the strongest science and higher education, Turah Parthayana says. As an Ambassador I am planning to promote Russian culture, tell foreigners about the merits of Russian higher education and its opportunities. Besides, I will answer any questions from the prospective students and try to show by my personal experience that Russia is great.

We should add that the status of the Ambassador of Russian Education and Science has been obtained by 13 citizens of different countries: Indonesia, Ecuador, Egypt, Mali, Mongolia and others. All of them are the graduates of leading Russian universities.
