IEM Leads Among TSU Departments in the Student Startup 2025 Competition

The results of the Student Startup competition of the University Technological Entrepreneurship Platform for 2025 have been announced. The contest organized by the Foundation for Assistance to Innovations has been held annually since 2022. This year marked the sixth round of selection. Each winner will get 1 million rubles in funding.

Among the winners - 35 TSU startups, projects in the fields of advanced materials, intelligent manufacturing technologies, medicine, digital technologies, and creative industries. Thirteen of the winning applications came fr om students of the Institute of Economics and Management (IEM), making it the best result among all TSU departments. That’s 13 new millionaires for us!

The Student Startup program is gaining popularity: this year, more than 11,000 applications were submitted — 4,000 more than in the previous period. Besides that, for the first time, not only students but also postgraduate students were eligible to apply. One of the winners was IEM postgraduate student Ngikofa Fiel Unitesson (Namibia), whose project focuses on developing innovative upper-limb prosthetic device that combine affordability with cutting-edge technology.

“ "Student Startup" shows that at TSU students can realize themselves in many areas — science, entrepreneurship, and creativity alike,” — noted Viktoria Makoveeva, Director of the Office for Technological Leadership and Vice-Rector for Strategic Partnership at TSU.

This year, the Tomsk Region ranked among the national leaders in the number of applications submitted. The steady annual growth in TSU’s projects is largely driven by the proactive efforts of the IEM Center for Entrepreneurship.

“The number of TSU winners has once again set a record — 35 projects! And of course, we are especially pleased that a significant share of them come from IEM. Since 2022, our students have been actively involved in this competition. The economic and entrepreneurial training they receive speaks for itself. Their projects are well-developed, particularly at the master’s level, but bachelor’s students are also keeping up. What’s more, the winners represent a wide range of programs — not only entrepreneurship track students but also economists and managers. Traditionally, IEM projects focus on "Creative industries" and "Digital technologies" spheres, but this year we also have winners in medicine and instrumentation,” — said Elena Lazareva, Deputy Director of the IEM Center for Entrepreneurship.

The winners are now preparing to sign contracts and establish legal entities — a process that will require considerable effort. For those considering participation, the Center for Entrepreneurship recommends applying first to the accelerator, wh ere aspiring founders can refine their ideas, identify target audiences, and define key performance indicators. Up-to-date information is available in the Center’s VKontakte group, or directly at the IEM Center for Entrepreneurship (Building 31, Office 208).
