September 1: TSU Institute of Economics and Management welcomes a new generation of economists and managers
On September 1 at 12:00, the Institute of Economics and Management (IEM) at Tomsk State University held a welcoming event for its first-year and specialist students at the TSU Research Library. The institute’s administration, faculty, graduates, and partners addressed the newcomers, offering guidance and encouragement as they began their academic journey at TSU.
IEM Director Evgeniya Nekhoda congratulated the new students and emphasized that they made the right choice entering TSU.
“Tomsk is a unique city. It is vibrant, youthful, full of energy. By enrolling at Tomsk State University, you have certainly made the right decision. In May 2026 we will celebrate the 10th anniversary of IEM, while the traditions of economic education at TSU go back more than a century. We combine tradition with innovative approaches in training specialists. We offer a wide range of programs and opportunities for individual growth and personalized study paths. I wish you to experience as soon as possible the full breadth of opportunities at TSU and at our institute, and, of course, to leave your mark in the history of IEM,” — Evgeniya Vladimirovna noted.
The director of the eco-factory "Siberian Cedar" and IEM alumnus, Alexander Olovyanishnikov, also addressed the students.
“I congratulate you on making the right choice when you applied to Tomsk State University and specifically to the Institute of Economics and Management. This is an excellent launching pad,” — he emphasized. He advised students to take an active part in internships and not be afraid to explore different fields. “It is better to regret what you did than what you didn’t do,” — he encouraged.
At the closure of the event, first-year students received information about orientation activities designed to help them adapt quickly to university life and explore the opportunities offered by IEM. Elena Yatkina, Head of the Office for Undergraduate and Specialist Programs, explained when classes would begin, what was required for successful assessments, and where to turn for support in case of academic difficulties.
Later in the afternoon, at 15:00, in the Building 31 was held a meeting with first-year master’s students and also Maria German, Head of the Office for Master’s and Doctoral Programs, congratulated them on the start of the academic year, noting that many had made a deliberate choice to pursue graduate or specialized higher education to deepen or broaden their knowledge.
IEM Director Evgeniya Nekhoda also welcomed the new master’s students, highlighting the importance of their decision to continue to the second stage of higher education. She noted that IEM offers wide opportunities for master's students' professional growth, trying out new areas of activity, moving to a new company, or advancing their own business.
The geography of IEM’s graduate and specialized higher education students continues to expand. For those who had not previously studied at TSU, Evgeniya Vladimirovna gave a brief overview of the university, its reputation, and its current areas of development.
Maria German, in turn, highlighted the uniqueness of master’s education at IEM, which combines classroom learning with active collaboration with the institute partners, participation in various events, and implementation of students’ own projects. She emphasized that the institute’s environment is designed for communication, teamwork, and the realization of ideas.
The meeting also introduced the heads of educational programs who will accompany the students throughout their studies, as well as the staff of the Office for Master’s and Doctoral Programs, ready to support students with all organizational matters.
