IEM TSU Conducts Training for Production Leaders of SPC "Polyus"

The Institute of Economics and Management (IEM) of Tomsk State University has completed a professional development program "Production Management" for employees of SPC "Polyus" – an enterprise of the State Corporation "Roscosmos" belonging to the integrated structure of JSC "Information Satellite Systems". The program, designed for production site managers, started in September and was implemented by IEM in collaboration with TSU's Institute of Distance Education.

Course participants gained comprehensive knowledge and practical skills necessary for effective production management in modern conditions. The program combined lectures and practical sessions on key aspects of strategic and operational management, delivered by IEM TSU experts.

— The program included four modules: economic, financial, management, and lean production. Now I understand how to plan departmental work more effectively and calculate the optimal number of employees for specific tasks. I feel more confident as a manager: for example, I can independently calculate the actual utilization rate of each worker – previously I had to seek help fr om colleagues, — notes Sergey Savenko, Head of Workshop No. 4.

Some sessions were held at the company's site, while others took place at IEM. The organizers are confident that the training enabled employees to gain new perspectives on their professional activities, work in teams, and focus on improving production processes.

— Thanks to the lean production course, we identified potential improvements in our workshops even during the training. The practical session on the simulator was particularly memorable: it clearly demonstrated how changing logistics and reorganizing production flow immediately increase productivity and reduce labor intensity. In our final project, we applied lean production principles – we will implement these specific solutions at our site, — says Dmitry Koltakov, Deputy Head of Workshop No. 2.

Currently, the state places significant emphasis on lean production and labor productivity improvement, making this topic especially relevant for practitioners.

— Every enterprise has reserves for efficiency improvement. According to statistics, companies implementing lean production achieve profitability and profit growth of at least 10-15% in the first year, — adds Alexander Shalygin, Associate Professor of the Department of Strategic Management and Marketing at IEM, who teaches the lean production module.

The program provided participants with both theoretical foundations and specific tools for improving efficiency at their work sites – from optimizing staffing to reorganizing workflow and logistics.

Final projects demonstrated that participants are already analyzing their professional activities through the lens of acquired knowledge and striving to improve both production processes and their management.

— We aimed to teach managers to make informed decisions, enhance production efficiency, and strengthen the enterprise's competitiveness. The program was custom-developed for JSC SPC "Polyus" considering their specific tasks and goals: we discussed the course content with company representatives and management, selecting instructors with real experience in training production personnel, — explains Irada Magaeva, Director of the Office (Dean's Office) for Executive Programs and MBA at IEM TSU.

IEM TSU has successful experience in implementing training programs for senior and middle management in economics and management, as well as programs under national projects "Labor Productivity and Employment Support" and "Demography". Corporate clients include Murommashzavod, NIIPP, Tomskneftekhim, Engineering Chemical Technology Center, Mikran, Manotom, Neotekhnika, Tomslesdrev, and other companies and organizations.

Nowadays, IEM actively collaborates with companies across various industries, developing seminars, workshops, and complete professional development and retraining programs aimed at specific clients. Development emphasizes practical application: knowledge should be immediately applicable and improve current processes.

— Our enterprise fulfills state defense orders, so we constantly seek the best technologies and solutions. The final projects show that employees engaged with new production organization formats and proposed interesting ideas for site improvement. Now we need to evaluate how to implement these ideas and what real changes they will bring, — says Vladislav Kranbikhler, Deputy General Director for Personnel and Social Affairs at JSC "SPC "Polyus".

Participants unanimously agree: in the 21st century, professional training must be continuous. At "Polyus", a separate budget is allocated for this direction, and professional development for both management and line personnel is conducted systematically, including with Tomsk State University's support.

— Continuous learning is essential – there must be constant growth. It's important to choose directions you enjoy and wh ere you can develop; then everything will go well professionally, — believes Dmitry Farafontov, Deputy Head of Final Assembly Workshop No. 1.

The collaboration between IEM and SPC "Polyus" on personnel development will continue next year: at the end of February, IEM experts will monitor production changes expected after implementing solutions developed during the training.
